SEPTEMBER 2018 ■ 71 ships are redshirt junior Ben Barrett, red- shirt sophomore Joe Bistritz, senior Philip Hall, senior Elijah Moskowitz, sophomore Ian Shanklin and fifth-year senior Patrick Sheehan. Hall, Bistritz and Barrett were NC State's top three finishers at the ACC Champion- ships, where the Pack finished third over- all out of 15 teams. All three were All- ACC after finishing 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively. Shanklin was the fastest for NC State at the NCAA Southeast Regional and was named All-Region after he placed 19th. He also was second on the team at the NCAA Championships, finishing 75th. Geiger is also hoping to get contribu- tions from other returning runners. Red- shirt junior Tanis Baldwin will look for more consistency after a season in which at times he was one of NC State's top runners, including at the season-opening adidas XC Challenge in Cary and the prestigious Nut- tycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madi- son, Wis. However, he did not finish at the ACC Championships, and did not compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional or the NCAA Championships. Another candidate to move into the lineup is redshirt sophomore Tim Bason, who took first place in the open race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and is a 2017 gold medalist at the USA Track & Field Junior Champion- ships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. This past spring in track, redshirt soph- omore Gavin Gaynor qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and was third in the event at the prestigious Penn Relays. Geiger has seen in the past that steeplechase success can be a good indicator of cross country potential.
