SEPTEMBER 2018 ■ 77 ran in NC State's first three races before missing the rest of the year with an illness. She was the fifth-fastest runner for the Pack in both the adidas XC Challenge and Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. Vess had a breakthrough track campaign, winning the 1,500-meter run at the Game- cock Invitational and taking eighth at the ACC Championships in the same race. ■ Newcomers To Watch A couple of touted transfers are joining the mix at NC State this fall — redshirt freshman Nevada Mareno and senior Nell Crosby. Mareno sat out last year at Stanford before arriving at NC State. She was a two-time state champion in cross country at Leesville Road High in Raleigh. In 2015, she won the mile run at the New Balance Indoor Nationals. Crosby is a graduate transfer from Columbia, where she was a two-time All-American in the steeplechase and was named the team's MVP in cross country last fall. ■ By The Numbers 6 NCAA Southeast Regional titles won by NC State, including the last two years in a row. 13 Times NC State has finished in the top 10 nationally since the NCAA Championships started in 1981, including the past three years. 46 All-Americans at NC State, with junior Elly Henes the latest to join the list in 2017.
