AUGUST 2019 19 Guy averaged 19.5 points per game in wins over Auburn and Texas Tech en route to Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors. PHOTO BY MATT RILEY/COURTESY UVA Williford notes that Guy possesses another skill that could serve him well in the NBA. "He has the ability to move and shoot the ball," Williford said. "Tony saw that, especially in our offense where we have a ton of screens. He could square up, turn and shoot. That's a hard thing to do, and there aren't many kids who can do that. He's a sneaky good athlete. He puts it on the floor better than you think." "I believe I'm ready for the NBA in all aspects," Guy told The Review-Journal. "But winning definitely helped. If we would have lost, it would have been very hard for me to leave that stone unturned." BEST OF THE REST Third-year guard Kyle Guy was tabbed as UVA's top male athlete at the Hoos Choice Awards May 1. Here are five more that put together out- standing seasons during 2018-19: Ryan Conrad, lacrosse — The third- year midfielder was tabbed as a first-team All-American, the Senior CLASS Award winner, the ACC Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the MVP of the ACC Tournament after helping UVA win the national championship. He finished the season with 31 goals, 18 assists, 49 points and 95 ground balls, making him the only player in the nation with 13 or more points and at least 70 ground balls. Bryce Hall, football — The third-year was named a second-team All-Ameri- can by the Walter Camp Foundation and the Football Writers of America after leading the country with 22 passes broken up. He also tied for the nation's lead with 24 passes defended. Hall was a first-team All-ACC hon- oree while helping UVA finish No. 12 nationally in team passing efficiency defense (107.62) and No. 16 in pass- ing yards allowed (183.0 per game). Tanner Morris, baseball — The sec- ond-year posted team bests in batting average (.345), hits (77) doubles (21), home runs (five), slugging percentage (.507), walks (41) and on-base per- centage (.452). His 21 doubles were tied for the sixth most in a single sea- son in program history. Jack Mueller, wrestling — The third- year captured the ACC championship at 125 pounds and then earned All- America accolades with a runner-up performance at the NCAA Champi- onships, where he fell to defending national champion Spencer Lee. He became just the fourth NCAA finalist in Virginia program history and fin- ished with a 21-1 record. Carl Söderlund, tennis — The third- year was named the ACC Player of the Year and earned All-America recogni- tion by finishing the season ranked No. 3 in the Oracle/ITA singles rank- ings. The three-time All-ACC honoree finished this year with a 20-5 mark in singles, including 13 wins over ranked opponents. — Steve Downey
