cavalier sports AUGUST 2019 9 M eghan McCool was converted to for- ward from keeper while playing with her Penn Fusion travel club. Needless to say, she has made a smooth transition to her new position. Last season, the fourth-year led UVA with five game-winning goals, was tied for the team lead in total markers (nine) and was second in points (19). My advice to student-athletes is: Not to be afraid to seek out help because there are a lot of resources here. I think something that's helped me is doing a lot of activities in Charlottesville. There are a lot of great people in town. Num- ber one is to use the resources that are given to us because college is a huge transition. The primary challenge facing student- athletes today is: There is a lot of pres- sure for every student-athlete going into college. You're here for a reason and are a great student-athlete. It is important to instill confidence in yourself that you are good enough to be here. The best thing about UVA is: There is diversity, but everybody here is caring and we're surrounded by great people. Why I chose UVA: It was the highest- level soccer program I could be at, but it is an amazing school. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for soccer. What I like the most about soccer: The games are hard to beat. On game days with the community, there is so much support. When the season hits it's short, but my fam- ily always comes to games so it's a great day. The highlight of my athletic career at Virginia: When Mia Hoen-Beck, who sel- dom played here because she was injured, scored her first goal early last season. The most important thing I've learned from soccer: Managing my time. I've be- come a very organized person. With the de- mands of soccer, it's taught me that school is a challenge. It has motivated me to make sure I have my priorities in line so I can focus on soccer. My dream vacation would be: Fiji Is- lands. — Mike Scandura getting to know Fourth-Year Women's Soccer Forward Meghan McCool What/Who Is Your Favorite … TV show? "This is Us" … movie?
