Justin Ferguson
Transfers To
Western Michigan
Justin Ferguson, a freshman receiver at Notre Dame in 2012 who
left the program the first week
of spring practice, transferred to
Western Michigan this July.
He was one of three freshmen
who departed from the Fighting
Irish program this spring, joining
fellow wideout Davonte' Neal
(Arizona) and quarterback Gunner Kiel (Cincinnati). A four-star
recruit from Hollywood, Fla.,
but originally from Pennsylvania,
Ferguson saw action on the Irish
special teams last year and also
caught one pass for nine yards.
Per NCAA rules, Ferguson will
sit out the 2013 season but will
have three years of eligibility remaining from 2014-16.
Digger Phelps 2,
Cancer 0
After overcoming a bout with
prostate cancer three years ago,
former Notre Dame basketball
coach Digger Phelps (1971-91)
told South Bend's WSBT-TV this
July that doctors have told him
he's cancer free again after undergoing surgery April 18 for
bladder cancer.
Phelps turned 72 on July 4 and
has been a college basketball
analyst at ESPN since 1993. He
indicated he planned to return to
that post for the next season —
one year longer than his 20-year
Notre Dame career when he led
the program to a 393-197 record,
highlighted by the program's lone
Final Four appearance in 1978.
