commitment profile: tyler newsome and rates the nation's top specialists annually — lists Newsome as the No. 6 punter in the nation. Camp director and national evaluator Jamie Kohl provided a positive review of Notre Dame's new addition. "Tyler Newsome has huge upside and is one of the best athletes in the 2014 class," Kohl noted. "The ball ex- plodes off his foot. "He showed a lot of talent at the Southern Showcase in December 2012. He hit some huge punts at our camp." Newsome won the punt competition at the Southern Showcase in May 2013. At the National Underclassman Challenge that month he was a finalists in the kickoff competition and made all 10 of his field goal attempts. ✦ Film Analysis Strengths Newsome absolutely punishes the football … He has a very strong leg and will be a major asset as a specialist, both as a punter and on kickoffs … His form is solid, and his footwork and delivery are very smooth. Areas To Improve Hang time is very important for punters, and he needs to develop consistency in that area … He is very successful due to the distance that he kicks the ball, but he needs to improve on his effort to keep the ball in the air and allow the punt coverage team to get to the punt returner and not allow much of a return … Admits that this is the area he would like to improve on the most over the next 12 months. — Tom Loy
