54 THE WOLVERINE JANUARY 2023   MICHIGAN RECRUITING NOTEBOOK BY ZACH LIBBY A s Michigan begins to assemble its next class, The Wolverine has iden- tified 10 top targets with offers who also have reported a high interest in the program. The following list includes six offensive players and four on defense. At this point in the process, with four commits already in hand, it appears that U-M's clear-cut top-four priority recruits in the current junior class are quarterback Jadyn Davis from Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day, defensive line- man Justin Scott from Chicago St. Igna- tius, running back Jordan Marshall from Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller and tight end Brady Prieskorn from Roch- ester (Mich.) Adams, the No. 1 overall in-state prospect. The order for the remainder of the list can be debated, but by all accounts these are the school's top 10 targets on the board. JADYN DAVIS QB • 6-0½ • 190 Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day On3 Rating: HHHH Not landing a high-caliber signal- caller in the 2022 and 2023 classes has forced Michigan to up the ante in the 2024 cycle with a nationally desired commodity at quarterback. For months, beginning in the late spring, the Wol- verines have pulled out the maize-and- blue carpet for Davis, who has made four unofficial visits to Ann Arbor since early June. If the methodical gunslinger commits elsewhere, then Michigan will be forced to rebuild the quarter- back board that doesn't have an exact backup option at this moment in time. Davis is growing close with current starter J.J. McCarthy and his family, as well as multiple current players on the roster, who are all fully aware of how im- portant it is for U-M to earn Davis' com- mitment. He also appreciates the NFL background of offensive co-coordina- tor and quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss along with the fact that Jim Harbaugh was a former professional quarterback. Per the On3 Consensus, Davis is the No. 1 player in North Carolina, and the No. 2 quarterback and No. 17 overall prospect nationally. JUSTIN SCOTT DL • 6-5 • 310 Chicago St. Ignatius On3 Rating: HHHH Michigan has long celebrated its de- fensive line success, and attracting Scott — who is arguably the most destructive force in the 2024 class — is imperative. Scott didn't start playing football until he was a freshman in high school when a friend asked him to come to tryouts, but he has first-round NFL Draft poten- tial due to his raw power and strength, awareness, and the willingness to be coached and developed. Both U-M defensive line coach Mike Elston and offensive coordinator/line coach Sherrone Moore are leading this recruitment. Scott has showed a high interest in the academic opportunities and culture presented at Michigan. He made his first unofficial visit for the Michigan State game in late October and came away loving the energy of The Big House. On3 ranks Scott as the No. 1 prospect in Illinois, and the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 16 overall player in the country. JORDAN MARSHALL RB • 5-10½ • 190 Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller On3 Rating: HHHH Earning a commitment from a top- ranked running back in every cycle should be an annual expectation for Michigan, especially considering how important that position has been to U-M's offense with the performances of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards this season, plus Hassan Haskins in 2021. Of the top 20 tailbacks in On3's rank- ings, Marshall is the only one who is trending upward with the Wolverines. He visited Ann Arbor twice this calen- dar year — once in the offseason and later for a game-day trip. He is planning another return this spring before he schedules his official visits. Marshall and his entire family have a close relationship with both Mike Hart and Steve Clinkscale, who are looking to pry the 5-foot-11 and 195-pounder away from Ohio State, which has offered along with Penn State and Tennessee. On3 lists Marshall as the No. 4 recruit in Ohio, and the No. 4 running back and No. 45 overall player in the nation. BRADY PRIESKORN TE • 6-5 • 220 Rochester (Mich.) Adams On3 Rating: HHHH Michigan already picked up one ver- bal commitment at tight end in De- cember in Hogan Hansen from Bellevue (Wash.) High, but it likely will finish out the 2024 cycle with at least two signees at the position, much like how the past couple of years have gone. The Wolverines' first priority has to be Prieskorn, who hails just an hour north of Ann Arbor and has visited campus four times, including the games against Hawaii and Michigan State. He has said that it's been easy to build a bond with tight ends coach Grant Newsome due to his relatability and their closeness in age. Newsome is doing the heavy lifting in communication with the versatile offen- sive weapon. As the top rising senior in the state of Michigan, according to the On3 Consensus, Prieskorn is a must-land player for U-M. Hogan has even told The Wolverine that he plans to garner a more active relationship with Prieskorn in order to help convince him to commit as well. On3 rates Prieskorn as the No. 1 player in Michigan, and the No. 3 tight end and No. 54 overall prospect nationally. JORDAN ANDERSON WR • 6-0 • 160 Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan On3 Rating: HHHH Michigan is targeting several top wide receivers in the 2024 class and would love to land Anderson, who last visited for the annual July BBQ at The Big House. He is good friends with 2023 wide re- U-M's Top 10 Targets For The Class of 2024 Four- star quarterback Jadyn Davis of Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day is Michigan's top target for 2024.
