TOPPING OFF AND GROUNDBREAKING
On June 1, the Virginia athletics department held a special doubleheader. That afternoon staff,
student-athletes, coaches and supporters gathered outside of the McCue Center to celebrate the
topping off of the new football operations center and to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the
new Olympic Sports Center that is part of the UVA Master Plan.
"These facilities — the football operations center and the soon-to-come Olympic Sports Complex —
allow students to maximize their UVA experience," director of athletics Carla Williams said. "And they
to continue to be that magnet that draws donors, alums, the university community and the broader
community together in a way that only sports can do."
The football operations center will open in the spring of 2024 and the Olympic Sports Complex
will follow a year later.
