He's returned to help continue the Kansas City Royals' 19-5 run from July 19 to Aug. 12, helping keep the team within shouting distance of the first-place Detroit Tigers. Getz went 3 for 4, drove in a run, scored a run and stole a base in the Royals' 6-2 win over the Miami Marlins Aug. 12. He was activated off the disabled list before the game after sitting out 15 days due to a left knee sprain. "I'd been watching a lot of the games on TV while I was on the rehab stint," Getz told Yahoo Sports. "Everyone looked like they were having so much fun on the field. I know what kind of fun they're having in here [the clubhouse], so I was real excited to get back and just be a part of it in any way. "We're obviously going through a good stretch right here and will ride it out as long as we can. We're having a lot of fun. I'm just happy to contribute in any way." Getz's RBI single staked Kansas City a 2-0 lead against the Marlins in a game in which it never trailed. "A big night for Chris Getz," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "He got us on board with the second run with the base hit up the middle, three hits, played great defensively. He just did a great job." Getz was batting .223 with one home run and 15 RBI as of Aug. 12. J.J. Putz Has Worked His Way Back From The Disabled List Former Michigan pitcher J.J. Putz continues to pitch well since returning from the disabled list (elbow) June 29. Putz stands 3-1 with a 2.55 ERA, five saves and 25 strikeouts through Aug. 12. "The ball is coming out of his hand way better, definitely," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Aug. 3. "Split isn't real good right now, but his slider is. Good [velocity], and he's got a lot more life on his ball right now." Putz was sidelined earlier in the year with elbow problems. MLB Notes • Cleveland's Rich Hill stood 1-2 with a 5.75 ERA as of Aug. 13, having gone eight appearances without giving up a run from July 22 to Aug. 11. He's notched 43 strikeouts against 20 walks as the Indians' middle reliever. ❏
