For so many seasons, I was so used to winning seasons for Michigan that I thought that those years would never end. Oh, there were some grueling wins and tough losses. But there was this feeling that there would automatically be a spot in a bowl somewhere, and more often than not, it was on Jan. 1. Those were years when playing on that date was as good as a team could do. It still is better than good, but maybe just not great. The college football season now dribbles into the middle of January. Do not get me wrong, I am there watching the national championship game along with millions of others in the second week or so of the new year. I have hopes that my team will make it there sometime soon.
