game, and an energetic year could give the Irish pass rush another big-time weapon. 2. TE Ben Koyack — The former No. 1 high school player in the state of Pennsylvania has only four catches in his first two seasons at Notre Dame. He fell behind classmate Troy Niklas on the tight end depth chart, but he has the chance to provide Notre Dame's offense with a versatile look if he can earn reps in the slot receiver position. In the Irish playbook, Koyack may help to plug the hole left by AllAmerican Tyler Eifert. 3. S Austin Collinsworth — Notre Dame's veteran in the secondary, Collinsworth can play both safety positions, which gives him a better chance of working into the rotation than his younger competitors. Collinsworth is a former special teams player of the year and was in line for a promotion on defense, but injuries ended his 2012 season before it started. He could potentially double his 25 career tackles if he becomes a regular contributor. 4. OLB Ben Councell — Wedged between one of the defense's steadiest players in Danny Spond and its most exciting prospect in Jaylon Smith, Councell appeared to be lost in the linebacker depth this year. But Diaco called him the most improved player of the spring, and with Spond's football career ended because of health reasons, the door is open for Councell to seize more playing time. With his 6-5, 254-pound frame, he might be able to hold the edge of the defense a little more than Smith. 5. RB Will Mahone — Mahone redshirted his freshman year and appeared this summer to be the least likely of Notre Dame's six running backs to see the field in 2013. A somewhat hidden ability to run routes and catch the football changed the perception of Mahone as a power back. A high ankle sprain might sideline him for the opener, but he could be a factor down the road. — Dan Murphy Authentic Notre Dame Helmets by Authentic "Speed" Full-Size Display Helmets Riddell's ND "Speed" helmet features a large-size shell, special-order facemask worn by most of the star players who choose to wear the Speed, internal padding reflective of the "Speed Classic" design, and 4-pt. chinstrap.
