Student-Athlete Of The Month Redshirt Freshman Tight End Michael Jocz Redshirt freshman tight end Michael Jocz comes from a long line of Michigan graduates. Including him, there have been five consecutive generations of his family at the school. And most of them were engineers. Jocz followed in his father's footsteps, choosing to study mechanical engineering at the university. "My dad was a mechanical engineer, and my sister is a chemical engineer," Jocz said. "I was kind of fit into that engineering field, and from there, you have so many different options. I went with mechanical engineering, because that was what I was most interested in. But the nice thing about it is, once you get into your major, you kind of touch on the other fields and areas. "But mechanical engineering is something that caught my attention right away. It is really about how things work. My dad works at Ford, with the cars and their seating restraints. It's about how things interact with each other, and it involves a lot of other engineering fields, too." When Jocz was in second grade, he was moved up a level in math classes, and he's always been ahead of the curve in that category. Science was another subject that came easy to him — and one that he enjoyed more and more as he got deeper into his studies.
