PREP PROFILES Michigan has already landed one of the prized prospects at Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep in legacy offensive line- man Jon Runyan Jr. The Wolverines could strike again at the home of the reigning Class AAAA state champions. Defensive back John Reid has offers from two dozen schools, including Al- abama, Miami, Notre Dame and Penn State. St. Joseph's Prep has quite the team — a state title in P e n n s y l v a n i a ' s largest high school division indicates that — and both Runyan and Reid have been big parts of it. In the quest for a repeat, Reid has slowed down his pace of visits, and will focus instead on the field. That's where Michigan's St. Jo- seph's connection could be a boost. Runyan and a few of his teammates — including Reid — will be heading halfway across the country to take part in Michigan's camp this summer. It will be Reid's first time in Ann Arbor. "A lot of schools always pop up, and I've got to go see them," he said. "There's still a lot of schools in the mix, and that's definitely one of them." Even though Michigan's defensive backs class is already three strong with four-stars Shaun Crawford, Tyree Kin- nel and Garret Taylor in the fold, Reid has the type of talent that is worth tak- ing a shot at. He's the No. 12 corner- back and No. 119 overall player in the nation for a reason. "Reid is so strong when jamming wide receivers that only a few of them are able to get off the line of scrim- mage," Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic re- cruiting analyst Adam Friedman said. "When he plays off coverage, he shows the speed, ex- plosiveness and anticipation to break on passes in front of him or turn and run with the receiver. If taller receivers try to go deep on him, Reid muscles his way into good posi- tion and is able to deflect anything that comes his way." Should Michigan impress Reid when he's on campus — and vice versa — it's likely that the Wolverines jump into his recruitment in a big way. For now, though, programs such as Penn State (where he's made multiple visits) have the upper hand. "I've been to Penn State a couple times now, so there wasn't anything special about my most recent trip com- pared to others," he said. "If anything, I got to see the actual town more than before." Michigan will have its chance to re- peat — or exceed — that experience. — Tim Sullivan Teammate Connection Is A Boost For Top DB ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ St. Joseph's Prep Philadelphia Class: 2015 Position: Cornerback Ht.: 5-10 • Wt.: 175 Rivals.com Rankings: No. 2 player in Pennsylvania, No. 12 cornerback na- tionally and No. 119 overall player in the country John Reid
