"We are very fortunate to find a player of Carter's caliber this late in the recruiting process," said Bruce Berque, before he was let go as Mich‑ igan's men's tennis coach after the season. "He brings a tremendous amount of passion for the sport of tennis and a great hunger to improve and compete. We were all very im‑ pressed with him on his visit, and he is exactly the type of player and per‑ son we are excited to welcome into the Michigan tennis family." Carter has had a successful run on the International Tennis Federation junior circuit, with a second‑place finish at the Honduras Junior Bowl in 2013; a semifinal appearance in the Brunei ITF Junior Circuit Champion‑ ships in Jalan Berkas, Brunei, in 2013; and a quarterfinals appearance at the Under‑18 Canadian Work Ranking Event last year. 9. Jayce Vancena, baseball: Prep‑ BaseballReport.com, which covers high school baseball in 12 states including most of the Midwest, ranked Vancena as the No. 47 player in the region and the No. 7 player in Ohio. The 6‑4, 220‑pound Vancena is a right‑handed pitcher out of Lake High School in Millbury, Ohio. BattingLeadoff.com analyst Daniel Schoenfeld saw Vancena throw at the Super 60 Showcase in February and said: "Vancena was probably my favorite pitcher of the day. He had a plus‑plus body with broad shoulders and strong legs. He had a loose arm with a 90‑ to 91‑mile‑per‑hour fast‑ ball that had plus arm‑side run and explosiveness. The changeup was his second‑best pitch, with a little tumble at 78‑79 miles per hour. I think Van‑ cena could add velocity and become a really interesting starting pitcher prospect." Michigan baseball coach Erik Ba‑ kich doesn't like to talk about indi‑ vidual recruits before they get to Ann Arbor, but he did say that Vancena is one of the incoming prospects that he believes will be selected in June's MLB Draft. "We have a lot of good additions from the pitching side of things," Ba‑ kich said. "We have six pitchers com‑ ing in that we're extremely excited about, three lefties and three righties. We have two to five guys who will likely get drafted this summer, so we have some high‑end talent." 10. Kyle Mueller, men's golf: The Wol‑ verines did not have a single golfer graduate after last season and will return their entire team next fall. As such, there wasn't much room for incoming freshmen. But the one golfer that Michigan head coach Chris Whitten did recruit to Ann Arbor is a terrific addition to the team. Mueller, a two‑time all‑state golfer from Athens Academy in Athens, Ga., is the No. 53 prospect in the 2014 class according to Golfweek/Sagarin. He was runner‑up at the 2013 Future Masters Golf Tournament, where he shot 68‑73‑66/207. "I couldn't be happier that Kyle will be a Wolverine next fall because he is a great fit for our team culture and Michigan in general," Whitten said. "His game really developed this past summer, and I see him making
