in that is going to show that they are going to make an impact, not only here but in the whole world of swim‑ ming," Bottom said. 6. Davonte Mahomes, wrestling: Ma‑ homes, out of Oak Park and River For‑ est High School in Oak Park, Ill., is the No. 41 overall prospect nationally and the No. 11 wrestler in the 170‑pound division according to InterMat. Mahomes claimed his first Illinois state title while posting a 44‑2 record in the 170‑pound division as a senior. He took third place in the 160‑pound division as a junior in 2013, and fin‑ ished third in the 152‑pound division as a sophomore in 2012. He capped his high school career with an im‑ pressive combined record of 161‑17. At the 2013 USA Wrestling Junior National Championships, Mahomes was perhaps the most impressive wrestler in attendance. He won na‑ tional titles in folkstyle and Greco‑ Roman wrestling, and finished sec‑ ond in the freestyle division. During his career, Mahomes earned three Fargo All‑America distinctions. He is expected to compete in the 165‑pound division at U‑M. 7. Alex Katz, men's swimming: Of the eight Michigan swimmers who qualified for the NCAA Champion‑ ships this year, seven of them have graduated. "We have to have some people who can step right in, or we're going to fall out of the top 10," Bottom said. "We're excited about this class, but it is a freshman class. Their worth is not determined by how they walk in. It's how they walk out." Katz, who was rated as the No. 27 overall prospect in the 2014 class by CollegeSwimming.com, is hope‑ fully a swimmer who can step in and make an early impact. Katz, from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Fla., trains with the YMCA Sharks in his hometown. He is primarily a backstroke and mid‑ dle‑distance specialist. Katz dominated the summer cir‑ cuit last season, winning the 200‑me‑ ter backstroke and the 800‑meter freestyle at the 2013 USA Swimming Junior National Championships. He also took third place in the 200‑meter freestyle and the 400‑meter freestyle at the event. Unfortunately, an injury limited Katz this school year, but Bottom has high hopes for the incoming freshman. "Alex really hasn't shown a whole lot as a senior, though he had an in‑ credible summer last year," Bottom said. "We're excited that he is going to be getting healthy in the next few months and be ready to start this fall. We think he can swim really fast for us." 8. Carter Lin, men's tennis: Lin, a late addition to the class after signing his letter of intent May 1, is one of the most promising incoming athletes, in any sport. Lin — who is originally from Nor‑ folk, Va., but now plays at Allendale Academy in Bradenton, Fla. — is a five‑star prospect according to Ten‑ nisRecruiting.net and rose as high as No. 11 in the site's 2014 class rat‑ ings when he was a sophomore. He is No. 46 in the website's final rankings for the class.
