FAN FORUM Haden leaned forward, six inches from the goal line — and Mahalic appeared from nowhere and hit Haden so hard and so directly from Haden's left side that Haden simply went straight sideways out of bounds. I was watching with a USC fan, and he could only yell, "What a play!" No two points. It's great to learn that Mahalic is as successful in life as he was in football. That one play (and his cool name) made him one of my all-time favorite Domers. Recruit 22 Drew Mahalics, and you will have a winning program for a long time. Ronny P. Kaye Collinsville Conn. STAR SYSTEM It would be interesting to see the high school number of star ratings next to the names of each "Irish in the NFL" player feature. It might indicate that not all NFL quality players have five- or even four-star recruit ratings as high school players. It would also show the reader that Notre Dame has some pretty savvy coaches at both evaluating and developing young talent. Steve Farley Northridge, Calif. WHAT HAPPENS AT ND STAYS AT ND Recent events at Notre Dame, in- cluding a " poor academic judgment" incident have prompted the usual irate letters and calls for the school presi- dent's resignation. Of course, these letters are usually written more for the benefit of the author than the recipi- ents. So hang in there Notre Dame Nation, and let's solve our problems under the Dome, not in newspapers and saloons. I remain loyal to Notre Dame, and look forward to Her return.
