ND SPORTS 8 North Carolina or No. 9 Virginia Tech — in the ACC championship game May 24 at 1 p.m. "The key for us going forward is just trusting in each other," sopho- more pitcher Ryan Smoyer said. "When one guys hits a wall, hits a slump or starts going off the path of what he's been doing all season, we've got guys that are going to step up and help them get back on track. "That's what got us here, and that's what's going to help us going forward. We just keep doing that, and I think we'll be able to make a good run." Regardless of the outcome in the ACC Tournament, the Irish are in a good position to land an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Their RPI sat at No. 34 nationally as of May 16, with a 20-8 record away from Frank Eck Stadium and a 9-11 record versus teams in the top 50 of the RPI. ✦ Irish Roundup WOMEN'S LACROSSE (11-9 OVERALL, 3-4 ACC) Notre Dame won six of its last nine regular-season matches and then beat then-No. 5 Virginia 7-6 April 23 in Charlottesville, Va., in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. However, Notre Dame suffered a crushing 18-4 loss at the hands of then-No. 2 North Carolina in the semifinals April 24. Head coach Christine Halfpenny's team received a bid to the NCAA Tournament for a school-record fourth consecutive season, and defeated Ohio State 13-11 in the first round May 8 before falling to No. 8-seeded Northwestern 16-11 in the second round May 10. MEN'S TENNIS (14-12, 6-6 ACC) The No. 35 Irish fell 4-0 to Georgia Tech in the first round of the ACC Tournament April 23, and saw their season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to No. 24 Vanderbilt in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament May 8. However, there was still some action left in 2015. Junior Quentin Monaghan was set to compete as a top-16 seed in singles play at the NCAA Single and Doubles Championships May 20-25 in Waco, Texas, while senior Billy Pecor and junior Alex Lawson were scheduled to participate in doubles action. WOMEN'S TENNIS (14-11, 8-6 ACC) The No. 34 Irish lost 4-3 to Florida State in the second round of the ACC Tournament April 23, and then fell 4-2 to TCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament May 9. It marked only the third time the pro- gram had gone without an NCAA Tournament victory since moving up to Division I in 1985-86. Junior Quinn Gleason and sophomore Monica Robinson were slated to compete as a doubles tandem in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship May 20-25 in Waco, Texas. MEN'S GOLF With a three-round score of 911 (303-305-303), Notre Dame finished in 11th place at the ACC Tourna- ment April 24-26 in New London, N.C. The Irish did not receive an NCAA bid.
