women, and Jerian Grant for the men — to their respective professional league drafts. Loyd and Grant each earned first-team All-American hon- ors in their final campaigns in an Irish uniform, making Notre Dame the only school nationally last year to feature both a men's and women's first-team All-American on their roster. The Irish were also the lone Divi- sion I program to send both teams to at least the Elite Eight. Their 67 com- bined victories (35 for the women and 32 for the men) were the most in the country. Everett Golson Transfers After helping Notre Dame to the na- tional championship game in 2012, then sitting out the 2013 season due to academic issues, Golson returned to the Irish in 2014 for his senior cam- paign. Sopho- more Malik Zaire eventually received the starting nod in the Music City Bowl against LSU, and split time with Golson in the 31-28 Irish win. Gol- son completed 6 of 11 passes for 90 yards, and Zaire connected on 12 of 15 throws for 96 yards with a touchdown while compiling 96 rushing yards and a score on 22 carries. On May 7, news broke that Golson would transfer from the program as a graduate student. Rumors were abound about numerous possible des- tinations, from Texas to South Caro- lina and Georgia. Eventually, Golson settled on Florida State — and as a graduate student, he's eligible to play immediately. Notre Dame does not have the Seminoles on the schedule for Quarterback Everett Golson was a top five Heisman Trophy candidate in the first half of the season but lost his starting job by the end of the year in the bowl game.
