BY LOU SOMOGYI I n 2013, Notre Dame signed its first complete set of offensive linemen from one class in seven years. The top-5-ranked quintet, all with four-star ratings, would have Steve Elmer and Mike McGlinchey at tackle, and then an interior with Hunter Biven (now at tackle), Colin McGovern and John Montelus. For the 6-5½, 315-pound Elmer, though, it has become quite a circu- itous route to finally call right guard his home. Follow closely: Elmer began his col- lege career in 2013 as the backup to fifth-year senior left tackle Zack Mar- tin, ended up starting four games at right guard instead, shifted to left guard the following spring to team with Ronnie Stanley on that side HOME AT LAST Mike McGlinchey and Steve Elmer settle in on right side of line McGlinchey did not play offensive line in high school, but appears ready to take over at right tackle after two years as a reserve and starting last year's Music City Bowl at the position due to injury.
