UNDER THE DOME September portion of the schedule against Texas (Sept. 5), at Virginia (Sept. 12), Georgia Tech (Sept. 19) and Massachusetts (Sept. 26). His expected return to the lineup will occur Oct. 3 at Clemson. There have been ru- mors that Bryant had been made aware during the spring of the violation and impending suspen- sion, but a source at the University could not con- firm if that was accurate. After taking a medical redshirt season in 2013 as a freshman, the Rivals. com five-star prospect Bryant, who hails from Delray Beach, Fla., was Notre Dame's second- leading rusher in 2014 with 289 yards and 5.4 yards per carry. His best game was the 49-14 loss in the regular season fi- nale at USC, when his seven carries netted 79 yards after the Trojans had built a 35-0 cushion. Classmate and fellow Florida native Tarean Folston easily was the top ground gainer during last season with 889 yards and 5.1 yards per carry. Meanwhile, emerging this spring as a new can- didate for more carries is 6-1, 220-pound senior C.J. Prosise, who has played at slot the past two sea- sons. In the 31-28 Music City Bowl victory versus LSU, quarterback Malik Zaire rushed for a team high 96 yards while Pro- sise was second with 75 yards, highlighted by a 50-yard scoring scamper that helped tie the game at 28 in the third quar- ter. Folston picked up 73 yards in the victory, while Bryant carried only twice for two yards. In the Blue-Gold Game this April, Prosise was the leading rusher with 12 carries that netted 64 yards. Bryant and Folston each carried nine times for 36 and 24 yards, re- spectively. Because Notre Dame did not sign a running back in the 2014 recruit- ing cycle, Folston and Bryant entered the spring as the team's lone schol- arship running backs — until Prosise became a regular in the backfield. Added to the running back stable this summer is Pennsylvania three-star recruit Josh Adams (6-2, 210) and Florida four-star prospect Dexter Williams (6-0, 200). In case of an emer- gency, fifth-year senior slot Amir Carlisle, who was recruited as a run- ning back and rushed for 204 yards in 2013 before shifting to his current po- sition in 2014, could be a contingency option. Although Bryant had more high school acco- lades than any other run- ning back on the roster, he has not yet developed the consistency in his all-around game, includ- ing as a blocker, to merit more action. According to Kelly, Bryant needs to understand that a basic single (four-yard gain) can be more productive NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL TICKETS 25 YEARS IN BUSINESS Call today for Special Discount 1-800-925-2500 www.NotreDameTickets.com
