"It was really just the right fit," Elliott said. "There's not much to it — when you know, you know, and I knew. I just had a feeling about Notre Dame and it was really a family deci- sion. We felt the family atmosphere at Notre Dame and I made the decision because of that and the academics. "Irish Invasion was just a great ex- perience. To see Notre Dame, it was different. Coach [Scott Booker] told me it was good that I was visiting these other schools, because he knew Notre Dame would be different — and it didn't compare." ✦ Top Five Male Rookies 1. Mikey Wynne, Lacrosse — The attack started all 15 games for Notre Dame this year, finishing fourth on the team in points with 37. His 33 total goals were second for the Irish. 2. Cal Peterson, Hockey — The netminder started 31 games, al- lowed 2.51 goals a contest and notched a .919 save percentage. He made an NCAA-record 87 saves in Notre Dame's 4-3, five-overtime loss to UMass. 3. Brad Bass, Baseball — Bass was named a Freshman All-Amer- ican by Louisville Slugger after finishing the season 3-1 with two saves and a 1.91 ERA. 4. Sean Guenther, Baseball — Earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors after he led the squad with five saves over a team-best 27 appearances. 5. Nyles Morgan, Football — A Freshman All-American accord- ing to the FWAA and Sporting News, Morgan started four games in 2014 and finished the season with 47 total tackles (seventh most on the team.) — Jordan Wells Top Five Female Rookies 1. Francesca Russo, Fencing — Won the women's sabre national title at the NCAA Championships in March, the first Irish freshman winner in that event since Sarah Borrman in 2008. 2. Brianna Turner, Basketball — Started 35 games for the Irish and averaged 13.8 points per game (second-highest on the team) while finishing No. 1 nationally in field-goal percentage (.652). 3. Morgan Reed, Softball — Earned second-team All-ACC honors this season, finishing with a .325 batting average and 31 RBI in 53 games. 4. Sabrina Flores, Soccer — The defender earned Freshman All-ACC honors, playing the second-most minutes on the Irish squad this year. 5. Allison Miller, Tennis — Miller finished 10-3 overall against ACC competition, and 1-0 against nation- ally ranked foes. — Jordan Wells Freshman Mikey Wynne's 33 goals were the second most on a Notre Dame lacrosse team that was ranked No. 1 much of this past spring before losing in overtime at the Final Four.
