ND SPORTS LACROSSE ENDS SEASON IN FINAL FOUR Head coach Kevin Corrigan's team clawed its way to comeback wins time and again in 2015, but fell just short in the semifinals of the NCAA Champion- ship against Denver May 23. The Pioneers took a 10-6 lead with only 4:23 to play, but a flurry of goals from sophomore midfielder Sergio Perkovic at the 3:38, 3:01 and 2:03 marks helped the Irish close the deficit to 10-9. Senior midfielder Nick Ossello scored with nine seconds left in the contest to tie the game. In sudden death overtime, though, an Irish turnover by junior attack Matt Kavanagh gave Denver the possession it needed to notch the win. The Pioneers' Wesley Burg scored with 2:03 left in OT, his 53rd goal of the season, to end the game. Denver went on to win the na- tional championship 10-5 over Mary- land May 25. "I don't think we played particularly well in certain points of the game, but we did what we needed to do to be in a one-play game at the end." Corrigan said. "And we didn't make that play." Several seniors exit the program, but a strong core returns headlined by first- team All-Americans Kavanagh and Perkovic, plus junior defender Matt Landis — who was named the National Defensive Player of the Year. The Irish also add three high school Under Ar- mour All-Americans to the roster next season. SPRING COMES TO A CLOSE Several other Irish programs enjoyed successful springs. • Junior Quentin Monaghan provided the top highlight of the men's tennis team's season, becoming the first player in school history to reach the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championships May 20-25. The ninth-ranked Monaghan fell in the semis to No. 8 Ryan Shane of Virginia 6-4, 6-1 May 24. • Women's track and field finished tied for 13th with Stanford at the NCAA Championships June 10-13, notching the highest finish in program history. • Softball failed to advance out of its NCAA regional despite hosting, falling 4-3 to Kentucky May 17. The Irish fin- ished 42-15 on the year. • Rowing advanced to the NCAA Championships for the fourth straight year, and finished in 16th place May 29- 31 at Gold River, Calif. • Women's tennis featured a dou- bles tandem of junior Quinn Gleason and sophomore Monica Robinson that ended the season with a 22-9 record and a No. 29th national ranking. ✦ Junior Quentin Monaghan was the first men's ten- nis player in school history to advance to the semi- finals of the NCAA Singles Championships.
