UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Molly Seidel — Track And Field The junior led for the final two and a half laps of the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championships and took first place with a time of 33:18.37. The victory was the first in- dividual national championship for the women's track and field program in school history. Seidel bested second-place finisher Dominique Scott of Arkansas by more than seven seconds to bring home the win for the Irish. Sergio Perkovic — Lacrosse Notre Dame fell 11-10 in overtime to Denver in the semi- finals of the NCAA Championship May 23, but Perkovic put on a fourth-quarter performance that Irish fans won't soon forget. With his team trailing 7-4 with 9:49 to play, the sophomore scored a season-best five goals — includ- ing three with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter — to help Notre Dame force the extra period. Cavan Biggio — Baseball The sophomore finished the season with a .986 fielding percentage and helped Notre Dame turn 62 of its 75 double plays — which led the nation through the regionals of the NCAA Tournament — earning an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove for his efforts. Current Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock is the only other former Notre Dame player in school history to pick up the Gold Glove award. Emilee Koerner — Softball The senior became the first softball player in school his- tory to earn All-America honors in three different seasons, after she was named to the NFCA third team May 27. Koerner finished the season ranked third in the ACC with a .410 batting average, and tied teammate Micaela Arizmendi for the conference lead in doubles (18). She also ranked fourth in the ACC in RBI with a career-high 57. TOP OF THE CLASS
