7 Consecutive years Notre Dame has ranked amongst the top two NCAA FBS programs with its 17 public recognition awards in the Academic Progress Rate (APR) that was released May 20. The Irish finished first in number of awards received in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and second in 2010 and 2015. Only Stanford, with 19, had more last year. The NCAA announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. 9 Wins by Notre Dame as the over-under total released by 5Dimes on June 12 for the 2015 regular season. In the 21 seasons since 1994, the Fighting Irish have reached at least a 10-2 mark only three times during the regular season: 10-2 in 2002 and 2006 before losing both bowl games, and 12-0 in 2012 before falling 42-14 to Alabama in the BCS Championship. 11 Spots dropped by Notre Dame in the Football Power Index after the transfer of projected starting quarterback Everett Golson to Florida State at the end of spring. The Fighting Irish went from No. 7 in the spring to No. 18. Two of its 2015 opponents are rated ahead of them — USC (12th) and Stanford (16th) — while two others are closely behind with Clemson (19th) and Georgia Tech (22nd). Opening game foe Texas is No. 30. 97-8-4 Football record of Notre Dame in years where horse racing has had a Triple Crown winner — as it did this year with American Pharoah. In eight of those 11 previ- ous years, Notre Dame either finished unbeaten or won a national title, if not both. While compiling that .905 winning percentage, the Fighting Irish never finished worse than No. 9 in the final Associated Press rankings, including No. 7 in 1978, the last time there was a Triple Crown winner before this year. 318-116-1 Record at Notre Dame by Pat Murphy during his stint as the head baseball coach from 1988-94, highlighted by three straight NCAA Regional finals in 1992-94 for the once moribund program before he ac- cepted the Arizona State position. Murphy was named interim manager of the San Diego Padres June 16. Earlier this season, one of his Irish players, Craig Counsell, became the first Notre Dame graduate hired as a Major League Baseball manager (Milwaukee).
