MICHIGAN HOCKEY Getting To Know Senior Forward Justin Selman The Upper Saddle River, N.J., na- tive enters his senior season com- ing off a junior campaign in which he had career highs in goals (11), assists (12) and points (23). Nickname: "'DJ Sels' because I'm usually the guy playing the music." Favorite Restaurant in Ann Arbor: "I like to change it up, but probably Mani Osteria. I get the Caesar salad with the fried egg, and their chicken is amazing. Their brunch is also really good." Best Meal He Can Make On His Own: "Salmon, asparagus and sweet potato. Probably the healthiest meal I can make." Other Sport: "Lacrosse growing up. I think if I kept playing, I probably could have played in college, but I had to give it up with hockey." TV Show: "'Ray Donovan.'" Movie: "'The Wolf of Wall Street.'" Dream Vacation: "Inside the U.S., I've never been to Los Angeles. Outside the U.S., probably Italy." Favorite Academic Class: "Sponsorship Marketing or Public Speaking. I have gotten the most use out of public speaking, talking to the media, to my team- mates, to fans, and then the marketing class was cool to look at, for example, Tiger Woods' case and his deals with Nike and Rolex, and how they've changed. You learn what goes on behind the scenes." Pro Athlete: "[Houston Texans defensive lineman] J.J. Watt. I got into 'Hard Knocks' this summer, and his work ethic and the way he is around his team is inspiring." Best Non-Yost Ice Arena Hockey Venue: "The Lincoln Stars' rink in the USHL. That's where I had my first USHL game. They turned the lights off and had this laser show, smoke, 4,000 fans screaming, pouring popcorn over the glass." Role Model: "My dad, John. He's a hard-working guy. Ever since I was a little kid, he's worked long hours doing everything he can for his family. He always pushed me, especially those days I didn't want to be at the rink, and it definitely paid off." Dessert: "Oreo Cheesecake. I love cheesecake and Oreos." One Word To Describe Red Berenson: "Legendary." — Michael Spath PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL
