PREP PROFILES Concord (Calif.) De La Salle tight end Devin Asiasi released a top eight of Alabama, California, Miami, Mich‑ igan, Oregon, UCLA, USC and Wash‑ ington in July. Many pundits believe that the Los Angeles schools are his leaders, but Michigan and Alabama are still firmly in the mix. The 6‑5, 253‑pounder has taken just one official visit so far, and that was to Tuscaloosa for Alabama's matchup against Louisiana‑Mon‑ roe Sept. 26. " I l o v e d i t , " Asiasi said. "My mom loved it, and it was really great. It was re‑ ally nice and wel‑ coming. It was everything. The people out there are really nice. The game was definitely a good experience. "They were telling me about their situation with the tight ends and stuff that might happen after this sea‑ son. Saying me going there would be perfect, and it would be a great opportunity for me." USC also seems to be in great shape for Asiasi. "I grew up watching them," Asiasi said. "My dad and the whole fam‑ ily were all about USC football. Troy Polamalu, Junior Seau and all the Polynesians that came in there. See‑ ing the success they had, I think that's why they're so high on the list and we like them so much." An official visit to Michigan had not been scheduled as of mid‑Octo‑ ber, but Asiasi has maintained inter‑ est in the Wolverines throughout his recruitment. With the way U‑M head coach Jim Harbaugh uses tight ends, he could certainly find a place for the No. 5 prospect at that position. Asiasi, who is also rated as the No. 17 player in California, would be a nice get for Michigan in a state they want to recruit heavily. " O r e g o n , Washington, Ala‑ bama, Michigan," Asiasi said when asked about his list. "There's a lot of other schools that are on there, too, but those ones for sure." With an official visit to Alabama in the books and no others scheduled, Asiasi is just getting started in the recruiting process. He isn't rushing to make a decision and will take his time. "I'll take my official visits and then make a decision on signing day," he explained. "That's my plan." Through six games, the U.S. Army All‑American had recorded nine catches for 167 yards and two scores. He had also done a lot of damage on defense, recording 21 stops, eight tackles for loss and three sacks. — Brandon Brown California Tight End Is Still Looking At U-M ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ De La Salle High School Concord, Calif.
