  WHERE ARE THEY NOW? BY JOHN BORTON M aceo Baston enjoyed a basket- ball career that took him from his native Texas to Ann Arbor, and on to Chicago, Toronto, Indianapolis, Italy, Spain, the Ukraine and Israel for nearly two decades. However, he didn't put all his eggs into the basketball basket. Now his company, Taste Love Cupcakes, cracks some into the treats of that growing business. Baston also reaches back to his overseas connections for potential business ventures. He's as high energy these days as he was jamming in put-backs and swat- ting away shots for U-M from 1995-98. It all flowed, he noted, from his de- cision to migrate from Dallas to the land of colors that caught his eye and football helmets that turned his head. "For me, it was a dream come true," Baston assured. "I was a top-20 player when I came out. Michigan was in its prime, coming off the Fab Five, and it was such an honor being there. I've always had a love for Michigan. "I don't know what year it was I discovered them, but I always had a love for Michigan football. Watch- ing on TV, the maize and blue and the helmets always stood out. I was a football fan from Texas first." Baston — always friendly, engaging and energetic — quickly became a fan favorite. Maceo Baston Soared On The Court And Now His Career In Business Is Taking Off Baston, a 6-8, 210-pound power forward at U-M from 1995-98, averaged 10.6 points and 6.6 rebounds for his career, and helped lead Michigan to three NCAA Tournaments, an NIT title and the first Big Ten Tournament championship.
