BY JOHN BORTON T hey say it's not the inevi- table falling down in life, but the getting back up that marks an individual. Gra- ham Glasgow has learned how to pick himself up, both literally and figura- tively. The fifth-year senior center out of Aurora, Ill., came to Michigan without a scholarship. He spent his first year in Ann Arbor getting treated like a dem- onstration team piƱata by older, more physically mature performers. After he'd carved out a career at Michigan with 24 starts prior to this season, bad choices almost pancaked his opportunity under Jim Harbaugh. Once again, Glasgow scrambled to his feet and made a stand, with help from Harbaugh and a feisty octogenarian. Along the way, he earned significant respect. "He's doing a great job of being a leader," Michigan offensive coor- dinator and line coach Tim Drevno assessed. "I think very, very highly of Graham. He's a very respectable young man, very intelligent. He'll do great things after he leaves this game. "He's really bought in, really led the offensive line. He's gone through some different things in his life, but his true colors have come out. He's a great per- son, a great leader, a great young man. And he's just really battled back. "That's really neat. Sometimes peo- ple go through tough times in life. It's how you come out, how you learn les- sons and not allow it to happen again. We're really pleased with him." Glasgow wasn't assured of playing a down under Drevno this season. The issues for this son of two orthopedic surgeons cropped up long before Har- baugh or Drevno arrived on the scene. Police arrested Glasgow for drunken driving on March 15, 2014. Three months later, he pleaded guilty to driving while visibly impaired, a mis- demeanor. Exactly one year after his initial ar- rest, a random test showed he had violated his probation by drinking. The court extended his probation by six months, and Harbaugh suspended FIGHT to the FINISH Center Graham Glasgow Responded Strongly To His Challenges
