BASKETBALL RECRUITING standout Jarrod West Sr. "We came up and visited with all the coaches in October and had a great visit," said West Sr., the head coach at Notre Dame. "Coach [John] Beilein told us he is one of two or three kids they might be looking at in that role. "We're excited. I know Jarrod would love to be there if they decide to pull the trigger and offer." From day one, West Sr. said, Beilein told them they were going to bring in another point guard to back up 2016 signee Simpson. Assistant coach Jeff Meyer went to Notre Dame to watch West work out and liked what he saw enough that Beilein has added West Virginia to his travel itinerary. "Listening to Coach Beilein, he's just a man of integrity," West Sr. said. "He was honest and up front, and I know there is a connection there. The first time Coach B. ever talked on the phone, the first thing he asked him was what his GPA was and what classes he was taking. He told him he had a 4.3 and rattled off his classes. "Coach Beilein liked that. Most kids aren't able to do that. He said he liked that he was a coach's son and very cerebral. On the visit he talked a lot about tutoring, how important academics are. "Everything about it fits Jarrod perfectly. He wants to play basket- ball, is a good kid, is all about aca- demics. … Everything Coach Beilein and Michigan represent, even the as- sistants, he fits perfectly." It basically comes down to whether or not the Michigan staff likes what they see this winter as to whether or not they'll offer, West Sr. added. And the Wolverines aren't the only ones interested. Marshall, Liberty, James Madison and East Carolina are among those that have offered, and several bigger schools have been watching him. West is a goal-driven player who likes to excel in everything he does and will to bring it on both ends of the court, according to his father. "He loves defense," West Sr. said. "He's a 94-foot defender, strong for his size, shoots the ball with range … 54 percent from three as a freshman, Bridgeport (W.Va.) Notre Dame High point guard Jarrod West, the son of former West Virginia standout Jarrod West Sr., is on the Wolverines' radar. PHOTO COURTESY RIVALS.COM
