MICHIGAN HOCKEY simple, which is good. "They're still feeling it out some, as most freshmen do at this point in the season, but they've had a big role on this team, and I would expect they will have a big role all year." Catt appeared in just one of Michi- gan's first 12 games, earning 10 min- utes of mop-up time in a 7-3 win over Niagara Nov. 13. However, with U-M trailing 4-3 midway through the second period of an eventual 6-6 tie with Wisconsin Dec. 5, the rookie netminder took the place of junior Zach Nagelvoort in net. Catt recorded 12 saves on 14 shots and stopped both shootout attempts he saw in the Wolverines' 2-0 shoot- out win — though U-M won the shootout, the game is officially a tie. After a weekend series at home against Minnesota Dec. 11-12, Michi- gan was set for a 17-day break before the Great Lakes Invitational Dec. 29. The Maize and Blue will return to conference action Jan. 8-9 with a home-and-home series against Michigan State, and the freshmen will look to continue to compete at the level they have thus far. "Sometimes with freshmen, they go out and play, and they don't know any better — they don't know that they're not supposed to lead the team in scoring," Trainor said. "You have a lot of energy and you want to contribute, and you don't overthink it. "You just skate and play like you've been playing all your life, and when you do that, usually good things happen." ❏ HOCKEY REWIND: NOV. 20-DEC. 5 Record Nov. 20-Dec. 5: 3-1-2 Best Win — 4-2 at Boston University: A night after blowing a 2-0 third-period lead against the Terriers, Michigan responded with a dominant effort in which they outshot Boston 38-21 Nov. 21. The Wolverines led 3-0 after 20 minutes and re-established a three-goal margin in the third period to stave off any idea of a second Boston comeback in as many nights. The win was U-M's first at BU since Nov. 30, 1990, ending a three-game losing streak in the Terriers' rink. Worst Loss — 3-2 at Boston University: Each of Michigan's last two visits to Boston University's arena ended in a 3-2 loss (October 2009 and October 2014), but the Maize and Blue came out flying, opening up a 2-0 lead at the first inter- mission on goals from junior Alex Kile and freshman Cooper Marody. Following a scoreless second, Boston struck at 10:44 of the third and then again at 10:56, erasing Michigan's advantage in 12 nightmarish seconds for the Wolverines. Doyle Somerby completed the horror show with his game-winning tally at 17:06.
