MICHIGAN FOOTBALL • Jim Harbaugh's search for a permanent defensive coordinator to replace D.J. Durkin is believed to be focused on five candidates: current Stanford defensive coordinator Lance Anderson, current Baltimore Ravens coordinator Dean Pees, current Colorado coordinator Jim Leavitt, current Florida coordinator Randy Shannon and current ESPN college football analyst Butch Davis. Harbaugh hired Anderson at Stanford, making him his defensive tackles coach/recruiting coordinator from 2007-09. In 2010, Harbaugh moved him to outside linebackers coach. Current Stanford head coach David Shaw made Anderson his defensive coordinator in 2014. Pees has been with the Ravens since 2010, working for Jim's brother, John. In addition to his role as coordinator since 2012, he also was the head coach at Kent State from 1998-2003 and a defensive coordinator in college at Miami (Ohio) (1983-86), Toledo (1990-93) and Michigan State (1995-97). A friend of the Harbaugh family, Leavitt was Harbaugh's linebackers coach with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14. He was the head coach of South Florida from 1996-2009. Miami's defensive coordinator from 2001-06, Shannon took over as head coach in 2007 and went 28-22 in four seasons before he was fired. He returned to a coordinator role in 2015 and was also an associate head coach for the Ga- tors. Davis has been a head coach three times, going 51-20 in six seasons with Mi- ami (1995-2000), 24-35 with the Cleveland Browns from 2001-04 and 28-23 in four years at North Caro- lina (2007-10). He was a defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys from 1993-94. • Harbaugh has said that redshirt junior defensive tackle Ryan Glasgow will not return for the bowl game, and he probably won't be back for spring ball either if he did indeed suffer a torn pectoral muscle injury. According to TheWolverine.com medical expert Dr. Preeti Malani, a tear and subsequent surgery would require a six- to nine-month rehabilitation, putting Glasgow on pace to return for fall camp. • With the departure of senior fullback Sione Houma, junior tailback Derrick Green is expected to be asked to embrace a responsibility change, focus- ing on short-yardage plays and a willingness to line up as a lead blocker.
