WHERE ARE THEY NOW? dork," she said. "That's actually how I picked my major. I get to talk about it every day now and teach middle schoolers how to be healthy for their lives. "I still train like an athlete, which is fun, and still get to compete. Because I compete, they seem to respond re- ally well to what I have to say — for the most part. They're 11 and 12 years old, so they're interesting." Beyond the impact her avocation makes inside the classroom, Clem- entson loves the process. Like train- ing to dominate in a college softball season, gearing up for competitions now energizes her. "I love the training and the meal prepping and all of the stuff lead- ing up to the show," she said. "The show is just a really cool experience, meeting all the people there who are as into fitness as you are. It's a cool atmosphere, just trying to be better and better." She's done five shows, with the one last summer leading to a maga- zine cover. She feeds off the intensity of the journey but acknowledged she always harkens back to her softball days, to Ann Arbor and to life-shap- ing moments. "Michigan is where I grew up and grew into myself," Clementson re- flected. "I always really look back on it fondly. Hutch, Bonnie and Jen were all huge influences. It's a great coaching staff. "The thing I remember the most was how much fun we had. Every day at practice, I was with the out- fielders, and we all got along so well. We just really enjoyed playing every day." ❏ The Rebekah (Milian) Clementson File Michigan Accomplishments: Earned four varsity letters at Michigan, from 2004‑07 … Played left field flawlessly (no errors) and hit .246 for the national championship squad in 2005 … Earned third‑team All‑Big Ten notice in 2006 … Garnered academic all‑conference honors for three consecutive seasons (2005‑07). It was a cool camaraderie between the athletes. I still have friends I stay in touch with that were on the track and cross country team. The athletic campus was our own niche, and I really appreciated that part."
