Bumgarner Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio Hometown: Grew up in Pfafftown (Winston-Salem) graduated West Forsyth 1975; has lived in the Cincinnati area since 1994 Degree/Occupation: BSME '79; Corporate Quality Assurance Manager — The Procter & Gamble Company, Cincinnati Family: Son Stuart, 21, who is currently a junior at NC State Hobbies/interest: Wolfpack sports, photography, travel, hiking, saltwater fishing, home theater technology Service: Presbyterian church elder; Boy Scout and Venture Crew leader. NC State's Park Scholarship Program as a Regional Selection Committee leader and member since 2002. I'm very proud to have received the Wolfpack Brent J. Bumgarner Club's JW Abernethy Award for Service in 2009. How did you become a Wolfpack fan? My first college football game was with a church youth group in 1968 when State beat Wake in the first game played at the current Groves Stadium. State kicked off and Jerry Miller (No. 88) went down and crushed the Wake returner. I became an NC State fan that day, and I became a lifelong fan as a student from '75-79. The 1983 Final Four experience in Albuquerque was special, and I look forward to doing that a few more times in the future. Why did you decide to get involved with the Wolfpack Club? I joined the Wolfpack Club during my senior year because I knew I was a lifelong Wolfpacker, and I wanted to start accumulating priority points. I became the Pitt County Chairman in 1985, became a Guilford County rep in 1989 and have been the Ohio Chairman for the last 19 years. I'm proud of making the original proposal in 1985 to start a Student Wolfpack Club and to provide recent graduates with an incentive credit to join the Wolfpack Club. It took a few years for this idea to percolate into policy, but I'm gratified when I see how far this has come. Why should someone that's not a member join the Wolfpack Club? If you consider yourself a fan of Wolfpack Sports you should join because the Wolfpack Club is the sole source of athletic scholarship funding for all sports at NC State. Not a single penny of tax revenue goes to scholarship funding. Money raised beyond scholarship needs is used for capital improvements to our facilities, so all money raised underpins success on the court or field. The priority point formula rewards years of continuous membership so my advice is to start your membership early and never waiver. Do you have any favorite game-day traditions? We like to tailgate before football games, but because I live in Ohio our tailgates are usually low key. We sometimes grill out but more often than not it is Smithfield's BBQ and chicken with Brunswick stew and tea. I never leave any game early. Win or lose I'm there until the clock is at 0:00. It is hard sometimes when it is cold, wet and we are not playing well, but I know how hard the team works and I want to show my appreciation. As Jimmy V said, "Don't ever give up!" and that goes for fans, too. Who is your favorite all-time student-athlete? We've been too blessed with great student-athletes to pick just one. David Thompson, Kenny Carr, Dereck Whittenburg, Chris Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta are my favorite basketball players. My favorite football players include Ted Brown, Jim Ritcher, Torry Holt, Jamie Barnette, Philip Rivers, Jerricho Cotchery and Russell Wilson on offense, and Bill Cowher, Jesse Campbell, Ricky Logo and Nate Irving on defense. The common thread for all of them is they were warriors, they overachieved and they brought effort to every single game. They refused to lose. Wolfpack Club   Web Page Sponsorship Options As a part of our efforts to improve and make things easier on our donors, we will be unveiling a webpage as a "one stop shop" for people to go online and take care of all things Wolfpack Club.  This will be a simple webpage consisting of a video giving insight to the life of a student-athlete, a link to DonorNet so that an online donation can be made, a link back to the Wolfpack Club website, and a sponsor with a link to the business' website. •There will be one sponsor on the web page for each month throughout the year (maximum of 12 sponsors). •The cost will be $2,500 (for January, February, July, December) and $1,500 for each of the other 8 months.  The four months that cost more are due to the fact that we receive the highest volume of traffic in those months. •Unlike advertising in The Wolfpacker, the webpage sponsorships will be separate from your annual donation, and you will receive cumulative WPC credit only for it on your account. •With the sponsorship, you will essentially have an ad with a link to your website on the webpage.  There will also be mention of your business throughout the entire month through other forms of promotion by the Wolfpack Club. •We will promote the webpage through our Facebook, Twitter, The Wolfpacker publications, home page, etc. to ensure that it gets lots of exposure with our donor base. We are excited about this new opportunity to reach out to our donors and offer you more exposure for your business to other loyal Wolfpackers. Although this is a new concept to grasp, we feel that it will make things easier for everyone when it takes off. If you are interested, please contact Brandon Cunningham at 919-8651507 or brandon.cunningham@wolfpackclub.com. Thanks for all you do for us and GO PACK!! 6  ■  the wolfpacker 3-8.WP Club News.indd 6 12/11/12 1:40 PM
