Started the season opener against South Carolina, but suffered an injury. He returned to the starting lineup against UNC, setting career highs with 75 snaps and seven stops, before coming off the bench in the Sun Bowl. He has 29 career tackles in 30 games. He caught 31 passes for 594 yards and six touchdowns, plus added 276 rushing yards. 36 William Brown III R-Jr. 5-8 192 Raleigh Walk-on played at Cardinal Gibbons High and has previously lined up at cornerback in his time at NC State. 33 Dalton Counts R-Fr. 6-0 214 Raleigh Walk-on who attended Garner High last year, where he played free safety and outside linebacker. His father, Eric Counts, was a nose guard at NC State (1990-94) and played for the Buffalo Bills. 38 Will Dabbs R-So. 5-11 192 Eden, N.C. Walk-on who attended Morehead High and is the twin brother of wide receiver Tyler Dabbs. Played quarterback and linebacker in high school. 19 Malik Dunlap Fr. 6-3 190 Charlotte, N.C. He played cornerback in helping Charlotte Harding High win the NCHSAA 4A state title his senior year. He also was invited to the 2017 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. New safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator Ted Roof is a 31-year veteran of coaching at the college level and was the head man at Duke for four full sea- sons and five games in another.
