JULY 2018 ■ 153 ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING is the son of former NFL linebacker Mark Fields and younger brother of Clem- son defensive back Mark Fields Jr., a rising senior who has five career starts for the Tigers. Last fall, the younger Fields produced 92 tackles and two interceptions for Hough. The 5-11, 190-pounder is listed by Rivals. com as a four-star talent, the No. 16 pros- pect from North Carolina and the No. 43 cornerback in the country. Tennessee has been considered the favorite for Fields, who unofficially visited NC State in June. 19. JAYLON SCOTT, LB Shelby High Scott emerged on the scene as a sophomore, when he compiled 51 stops, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks and three interceptions, one of which was a pick-six, while helping lead Shelby High to a 2-AA state title that was ironi- cally won at Carter-Finley Stadium. He took another step forward as a junior with 85 tackles, 20 stops for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recover- ies, two blocked punts and an interception for a team that made the state semifinals. The 6-1, 230-pounder has the capability of being an athletic, rangy linebacker once he gets into a college strength and condi- tioning program. He picked NC State in May over offers from Clemson, Colorado, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Syracuse and West Virginia. Rivals.com rates Scott as a three-star prospect, the No. 31 recruit in North Carolina and the No. 42 outside linebacker in the land. 20. NOLAN GROULX, WR Cornelius Hough High The 5-11, 185-pound Groulx is the typical slot re- ceiver that you tend to find ending up on the New Eng- land Patriots down the road: quick, speedy and tough with good hands. He caught 75 passes for 1,101 yards and eight touch- downs in 15 games for Hough last season. After originally committing to Wiscon- sin, Groulx backed out on the Badgers and in June announced he was headed to Wake Forest. Rivals.com rates him as a four-star recruit, the No. 11 player in the state and the No. 37 wide receiver nationally. ■ For regular reports on NC State football recruiting plus videos of Wolfpack commitments and targets visit TheWolfpacker.com.
