The 6-1, 235-pounder had 112 tackles, three interceptions (one pick-six), three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery last season. He also rushed 30 times for 287 yards and three scores plus caught a touchdown pass. NC State beat out Clemson to land a verbal commitment from Thomas in June. Rivals.com rates him as a three-star recruit, the No. 21 prospect in the state and the No. 22 inside linebacker in the nation. 7. C.J. CLARK, DT New London North Stanly Clark displays the physi- cal traits colleges desire in defensive tackles. He has the size and frame at 6-3, 300 pounds, quick feet and a good nose for the football. He produced 79 tackles and nine sacks as a junior for North Stanly. Rivals.com rates him as the No. 7 pros- pect in North Carolina, and the No. 10 de- fensive tackle and No. 204 overall player in the country. Clark verbally committed to NC State in June over Georgia and UNC. 8. TONY DAVIS, CB Gastonia Hunter Huss Davis is a very athletic 6-2, 185-pounder with all the physical traits to be a high-level corner in college. At UNC's summer camp, he reportedly had an 11- foot standing broad jump and was timed at 4.5 seconds in the 40- yard dash. Last season, Davis notched 38 tackles, four interceptions (one pick-six), 11 passes broken up, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery that he returned 65 yards for a score. Davis made an early verbal commitment from Duke, but may be still be consider- ing other colleges. Rivals.com rates him as a four-star talent, the No. 8 player in the state, and the No. 23 cornerback and No. 215 overall prospect nationally. 9. J.R. WALKER, S Clayton High Walker transferred from Northeastern High in Eliza- beth City to Clayton after his junior school year was finished. Like his former t e a m m a t e F r e s h w a t e r, Walker was a two-way standout as a junior.
