He's happy and hungry now, but what about the day he's satisfied with his accomplishments at the college level? What Kelly said about interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles — that the fact-finding mission only deepened his affection for the college game — doesn't really matter when it comes to his future feelings. People change. Personal aspirations change. Money can change a person's mind. But when Kelly does eventually dip his toes in the professional game — and it's only a matter of time — his recent words will come back to haunt him, fairly or unfairly. That's how these things work. No coach in his right mind would turn down Notre Dame to stay at Cincinnati, yet Bearcats players acted as if Kelly committed high treason for merely taking a better job back in December 2009.
