Xie said his star dives well enough during practice to be named an All-American, but is still learning how to perform her best on college diving���s biggest stage ��� the NCAA Championships. Chiang puts it more bluntly. ���I have a tendency to choke,��� she said. ���Usually I can qualify to get to the meet that I need to get to, but then when I get there, I choke.��� As a sophomore, Chiang finished 12th at the regional qualifying meet. A year ago, she qualified for the national meet, but came up short of her expectations again. Her fellow divers at Notre Dame, three of whom placed among the top eight in the Big East finals, have helped build her mental toughness by treating most practices like real competitions. She���s discovered ways to calm her nerves by listening to a slowplaced song on repeat during meets. On March 21, she���ll get a chance to put her new methods to the test when her standout career in South Bend draws to a close. ��� Irish Roundup Hockey (21-12-3) The No. 11 Fighting Irish finished their final season in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association on a high note with a five-game unbeaten streak. Notre Dame swept Bowling Green at home during the first weekend of March after playing No. 8 Western Michigan to a pair of ties a week earlier. Freshman left wing Mario Lucia won the conference���s Offensive Player of the Week award by scoring two goals (including one game winner) and adding an assist against Bowling Green. The Irish ended the season in second place in the CCHA standings and will play Bowling Green again in a best-of-three series in the conference quarterfinals starting March 15. Baseball (10-3) Irish left wing Mario Lucia made the CCHA All-Rookie team this season.
