football recruiting Casting A Wider Net Notre Dame extends 20 new offers heading into spring football By Jason Sapp T he Irish had four verbal commitments in the 2014 recruiting class entering spring practice, with approximately 16 more spots to fill. From mid-February to mid-March, Notre Dame added 20 names to its offer list in an effort to expand its options. Here���s a breakdown of the new prospects on the Irish recruiting board. Running Back Joe Mixon 6-2, 195, Oakley (Calif.) Freedom 247Sports Ranking: Rated as the nation���s No.��19 athlete and the No. 208 overall prospect in the land. Thoughts On Offer: ���It was a big offer to pick up. I���ve been waiting for this offer for a couple of months now. ��� Coach [Mike] Denbrock compared me to [Minnesota Vikings running back] Adrian Peterson and feels I can have a big impact on their offense.��� The Skinny: Mixon wants to be an immediate contributor in college ��� He plans on taking all five of his allotted official visits with one of the stops being to Notre Dame. They have a good young quarterback [Everett Golson], and they���re going to be good.��� The Skinny: 247Sports national writer Steve Wiltfong reports that Dixon is at the top of Notre Dame���s receiver board, and recruiting coordinator Tony Alford has been making him feel comfortable with the school and program sight unseen ��� He hopes to see it all in person on a visit.
