Cameron Biedscheid, who has been the teams sixth man most of the year, turned in 5.3 points per game in Big East play. Brey had reached the point where he wasnt desperate to rush Martins return, which wasnt picking up much steam. Martin never got through an entire practice session after taking several weeks off entirely. It became evident that a procedure to clean up scar tissue in his battered left knee was required. Martin had two previous procedures performed on the same knee (ACL tear and meniscus tear). Martin scored 1,048 points in 116 career games (9.0 average) at Notre Dame and Purdue. He played his freshman season for the Boilermakers during the 2007-08 season, averaging 8.5 points in 32 games. He sat out the next season due to NCAA transfer rules after coming to Notre Dame. Just before the start of 2009-10, he went down with an ACL injury. I really feel for him, Brey said of Martin. He was playing his best basketball for us early in the season. He tried like heck. Martin drained 10 of his first 14 threepoints attempts this season, looking as if his first healthy year would be a banner campaign to end his career. But the veteran, who never complained of discomfort, faced a lot of pain behind the scenes. By January, Martin was passing on shot opportunities and showed little explosiveness. He averaged 7.9 points and 5.9 rebounds in 18 games and connected on 31 of 67 (46 percent) from three-point land this season. He didnt want to tell me he couldnt go, Brey said. 2012-13 Schedule Date Opponent (TV) Result/Time (ET) Nov. 10 Evansville$ W, 58-49 Nov. 12 Monmouth$ W, 84-57 Nov. 16 vs. St. Josephs# L, 79-70 (OT) Nov. 17 vs. BYU# W, 78-68 Nov. 21 George Washington W, 65-48 Nov. 24 St. Francis (Pa.)
