JANUARY 2023 THE WOLVERINE 45   FOOTBALL RECRUITING EJ's Ranking: Low four-star (Out- side Top 300) EJ's Evaluations: Game (Four), Practice, Camp (Three), 7v7 (Six), Pri- vate Workout, Film EJ's Scouting Report: At 5-foot- 11, 180 pounds, Morgan is the smallest player in Michigan's class. However, he plays big and has that "dog mentality" that college coaches desire. Despite be- ing on the shorter side, Morgan uses his athletic ability and basketball back- ground to out-jump defenders. He's at his best in the slot. An expe- rienced route runner that can consis- tently get open underneath. Track times leave a lot to be desired, but he can make plays vertically. Could transition to a nickel role at the next level as well. Starred on the defen- sive side of the ball for West Bloomfield, recording multiple interceptions. A Swiss Army Knife with plenty of swag- ger and confidence. 13. WR FREDRICK MOORE ST. LOUIS CARDINAL RITTER On3 Consensus Ranking: High three-star EJ's Ranking: High three-star EJ's Evaluations: 7v7, Film EJ's Scouting Report: Made a big jump from junior to senior season. Al- ways known as a high-end route runner that creates separation and consistently gets open. Very crafty and knows how to damage against zone schemes. Less than ideal track times, but shows good game speed and even better ac- celeration. Senior film shows his ability to make plays in the open field and take short passes for long distances. Adequate size at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds with long arms and a great catch ra- dius. Can drop some passes and isn't as natural of a pass catcher as others in the class. Can get lost for long periods and needs to be more consistent. Flashes as a punt returner. 14. LB HAYDEN MOORE AURORA (COLO.) REGIS JESUIT On3 Consensus Ranking: Low three-star EJ's Ranking: High three-star EJ's Evaluations: Film EJ's Scouting Report: Played a lot of defensive end earlier on in his ca- reer but found his footing as an outside linebacker as a senior, making him a late riser. Played in a 3-3-5 scheme, where he is utilized in multiple ways — filling gaps, blitzing off the edge and drop- ping back into coverage. Checks a lot of boxes, and the versatility will transition well into Michigan's scheme. Adequate physicality, sideline-to- sideline speed, ability to cover and technique, but not special in any one area. Not necessarily a high-end athlete but is very productive and a tackling machine. Has a relentless motor. Proj- ects best to the Will 'backer spot. 15. CB CAMERON CALHOUN CINCINNATI WINTON WOODS On3 Consensus Ranking: High three-star EJ's Ranking: High three-star EJ's Evaluations: Camp, Film EJ's Scouting Report: A fundamen- tally sound prospect that plays with above average technique. Very patient and displays great footwork. Has proven himself on an island against Division I- level wide receivers. Wins with his foot- ball IQ , technique and physicality. Ad e q u a te s i ze a t a p p rox i m a te ly 6-foot, 170 pounds with decent length. Will need to add some weight to his frame. Needs to get faster as well. Not extremely athletic, which limits his ceiling. Floor is high and projects to be a multi-year late career starter. Also has the ability to move into the nickel role. A very cerebral player with an understanding of what the opposing offense is trying to do. 16. TE ZACK MARSHALL CARLSBAD (CALIF.) HIGH On3 Consensus Ranking: High three-star EJ's Ranking: Mid three-star EJ's Evaluations: Film EJ's Scouting Report: Was very productive as a pass catcher as a ju- nior, racking up more than 1,000 yards against lower-level competition. Took a step up in competition as a senior but missed half the season, making him one of the more mysterious prospects in the class. Spends a lot of time in the slot and out wide. Isn't tall for the position at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, but he does run excellent routes and proves to be a natu- ral pass catcher. Coming along as an in-line tight end but still needs to learn how to block with proper technique. A slender build with the room to add 25 pounds. Named to the Detroit Free Press Dream Team, Semaj Morgan caught 43 passes for 733 yards with 14 touchdowns as a senior at West Bloomfield (Mich.) High. He also threw for 5 touch- downs in spot duty at quarterback and added a 92-yard rushing TD and a 101-yard intercep- tion return on defense. PHOTO BY EJ HOLLAND
