commitment profile "There wouldn't be any other school he'd change his mind for," John Wangler said of his son. "[LSU head coach] Les [Miles] has offered him and was begging him, and he's one of my best friends. Jared wants to play in the Big Ten and wants to play at Michigan. That was always his dream. To have your son live that — as a parent, that's all you can ask." Wangler has been a versatile player throughout his football career. He has played both safety and linebacker in high school. He was a strong safety at Royal Oak (Mich.) Shrine before lining up at outside linebacker and rover in his first year at De La Salle in the fall. Although the Pilots went 5‑4 and failed to make the state playoffs, Wangler compiled 86 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one interception during his junior season. He hopes to increase that production as a senior, and will be doing it at a new — or old, depending on your point of view — position. "I'm moving back to safety this fall, because that's where DLS needs me," he said. "I hope to help lead us back to the playoffs, where we belong. Last year was bad with some injuries, but we should be back." The 6-1, 215-pound Wangler is currently rated as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com. He is the fourth linebacker in Michigan's class, and plans to line up at both the strongside and weakside positions when he arrives in Ann Arbor. — Tim Sullivan
