MICHIGAN RECRUITING
School was the first New Jersey na‑
tive to pledge for the Wolverines, doing
so June 25 after spending three days
in Ann Arbor. He was in town with
his teammate, Brad Hawkins Jr., and
soon after Johnson made the plunge his
teammate followed suit.
Hawkins is Rivals.com's No. 50 wide
receiver and No. 224 overall player na‑
tionally, and its No. 7 player in New
Jersey. The four‑star receiver decided
that Michigan would be the place for
him July 3, just eight days after his
teammate. The 6‑2, 195‑pound pass
catcher then made it his duty to bring
another receiver, and friend, from New
Jersey with him to Ann Arbor.
On Aug. 27, Cedar Creek Egg Har‑
bor City four‑star Ahmir Mitchell
also made his decision in favor of the
Maize and Blue. Rivals.com's No. 19
wide receiver and No. 102 overall
player nationally, and its No. 3 player
in New Jersey, makes him the highest‑
rated athlete from the Garden State to
choose Michigan to date. At 6‑3 and
203 pounds Mitchell was a key get for
Harbaugh and Co., and has been in‑
strumental in recruiting the only two
players ranked higher than him in New
Defensive tackle Rashan Gary of Paramus (N.J.) Catholic High, the nation's No. 2 overall
player, officially visited Michigan for the BYU game Sept. 26.
