MICHIGAN RECRUITING Jersey to join him and his buddies from Camden in Ann Arbor. The Wolverine coaching staff — and the future Wolverine New Jersey na‑ tives — now set their sights on two five‑star talents that are both giving Michigan a hard look. Defensive tackle Rashan Gary out of Paramus Catholic and running back Kareem Walker out of Wayne De Paul Catholic have both taken official visits to Michigan — Gary for the BYU game and Walker for the contest against Northwestern. Gary is Rivals.com's No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 2 overall player nation‑ ally, and its top player in Jersey. He has only taken the one official visit to Ann Arbor and only has one other sched‑ uled, Auburn Nov. 27 for the Iron Bowl showdown against Alabama. The 6‑5, 290‑pounder would be a huge injection of talent on an already stellar defensive unit for the Wolverines and would be the type of coup that other top recruits would pay attention to, like Peppers was two classes ago. The Walker development is newer and more complex. Rivals.com's No. 1 running back and No. 21 player nation‑ ally sits just behind Gary at No. 2 in the state of New Jersey and has been committed to Ohio State since Jan. 12 — specifically since halftime of the na‑ tional championship game. He surprised a lot of people by tak‑ ing an official visit to Michigan just a couple of weeks ago, and now looks like a very real flip candidate. Walker spent a lot of time with com‑ mitments Hawkins, Mitchell and John‑ son during his trip to Ann Arbor, and it was clear that all three were working hard on convincing the star back that Michigan was the place for him. The Wolverines are also still involved with three other solid players in the state of New Jersey as well. Old Tappan four‑star Jordan Fuller, Rivals.com's No. 8 player in the state and No. 17 athlete nation‑ ally, recently included the Wolverines in his top eight along with Rutgers, UCLA, TCU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Virginia Tech. The 6‑2, 190‑pounder plays multiple posi‑ tions in high school, but figures to be a safety in college. Current Nebraska commit and team‑ mate of Walker, three‑star Quayshon Alexander is Rivals.com's No. 37 weakside defensive end in the nation and No. 16 player in New Jersey. The 6‑2, 235‑pounder also took his official visit to Michigan for the Northwestern game and is now a player to watch as the recruiting cycle drives on toward National Signing Day. Finally, a third wide receiver from the Garden State with heavy interest in the Maize and Blue is three‑star Donald Stewart out of Paramus Catholic. The 6‑4, 185‑pounder is the No. 19 player in New Jersey according to Rivals.com and has Michigan very near the top of his list, but will likely end up at Stan‑ ford if he can make it through the Car‑ dinal's stringent admissions process. — Brandon Brown On The Web For regular reports on Michigan football re- cruiting plus videos of U-M commitments and targets visit TheWolverine.com.
