PREP PROFILES Colorado QB With Strong Bloodlines Has U-M At The Top Of His List The name "McCaffrey" has become well known in the world of football. Ed was a longtime NFL wide re- ceiver, while sons Max (a senior wide receiver at Duke) and Christian (a sophomore running back at Stanford and a Heisman Trophy candidate) are standouts at the college level. Soon, their younger brother Dylan will be a household name himself. The 6-4, 185-pounder is a dual- threat quarterback at Valor Chris- tian School just outside of Denver — where dad was an All-Pro for the Broncos in 1998 — with early offers from several schools, including Michi- gan. The four-star recruit took an un- official visit to Ann Arbor for U-M's loss to Michigan State earlier this fall, his second trip to town of the recruit- ing process. It solidified Michigan as his early favorite. "As of now, that is the only school I've actually visited so far," McCaf- frey explained. "They're definitely my highest right now, and I'm considering them a whole bunch." McCaffrey completed 207 of 320 passes (64.7 percent) for 2,800 yards with 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions en route to a 12-2 state title-winning junior season. He added another 592 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground in 128 attempts (4.6 yards per rush) — showing off the athleticism that comes naturally to a young player with an NFL vet father and a mother who was a college ath- lete herself, playing soccer at Stanford. With plenty of ties to the Cardinal, McCaffrey could be expected to fol- low Christian to Palo Alto. However, Stanford has yet to offer a scholarship, and with plans to wrap up his recruit- ment this spring, McCaffrey could be closing in on become a Wolverine. "I think I am getting closer," he said of the end of his recruiting pro- cess. "It's just whenever it feels right. Whenever I know where I want to go, I'm still going to take my time. "I'll be playing basketball again, so I'll be spending a lot of focus there this winter, but that is less mentally demanding than football, so I can also focus my time on recruiting." With Jim Harbaugh's ties to Stan- ford (his former offensive coordinator there, David Shaw, is now the head coach), there's a bit of familiarity, as well. Michigan and McCaffrey could end up being the perfect fit. — Tim Sullivan ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Valor Christian School Highlands Ranch, Colo.
