INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Five-year-old Chad Carr, grand- son of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr and All-American safety Tom Curtis, and son of former U-M quarterback Jason Carr, passed away Nov. 23, exactly 15 months since his diagnosis with Diffuse In- trinsic Pontine Giloma (DIPG). His battle with the rare form of brain cancer had drawn worldwide atten- tion and started the #ChadTough hashtag on social media, leading to a foundation created in his name. Curtis' daughter and Chad's mother, Tammi, announced the news on Facebook, where thousands of followers checked daily for up- dates on his progress. "#ChadTough gained his angel wings today. Please pray for peace for our family," Tammi Carr wrote. "He left the earth peacefully and is now running and jumping in heaven. It is well with his soul." The members of the Michigan football team had been writing 'ChadTough' on the back of their helmets, starting with the Indiana football game, a double-overtime win after which they presented Chad with the game ball at his house. Michigan's two most high-profile coaches, football's Jim Harbaugh and basketball's John Beilein, ex- pressed their condolences with Michigan Family Loses Chad Carr Carr was honored by Michigan players writing #ChadTough on the back of their helmets, starting with the Indiana game.
