  MICHIGAN BASKETBALL The ACC hasn't won the Challenge since 2008, earning ties in 2012 and 2013 and losing the other five years, including this one. Michigan's 66-59 win over North Carolina State in Ra- leigh, N.C., Dec. 1 helped set the early tone for the Big Ten, which captured this year's slate of games, 8-6. Some of the other headliners in- cluded No. 9 North Carolina taking down No. 2 Maryland 89-81 and No. 3 Michigan State rallying at home to overcome No. 24 Louisville 71-67. Wisconsin beat No. 14 Syracuse in overtime 66-58 and Iowa took an ex- tra session to put down Florida State 78-75, while two other games also couldn't be settled in regulation. The Wolverines have squared off against the Wolfpack in four of those games, and hold a 3-1 edge, sweeping in Ann Arbor and splitting the games in Raleigh. BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK • Michigan's 86-70 loss to Xavier Nov. 20 featured a season-high 29 points by senior guard Caris LeVert. He fell just three shy of his career high in the game. • Junior forward Zak Irvin made his first start of the season in the Xavier game, continuing to come back from an offseason surgery. He scored seven points, connecting on his first three-pointer of the year. • S o p h o m o r e w i n g A u b r e y Dawkins established a new career high in rebounds versus Xavier, with six. • Michigan set a Battle 4 Atlantis tournament record with 102 points in the 102-47 dusting of Charlotte Nov. 26. The victory marked one of the two wins in three games posted by the Wolverines on Paradise Is- land, Bahamas. • Freshman forward Moritz Wagner set career highs in points (19) and minutes (16) during the win over Charlotte. • The contest moved Michigan to 44-0 under head coach John Beilein when putting 80 or more points on the board.
