INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Sitting Down With Offensive Coordinator Tim Drevno Michigan offensive coordinator Tim Drevno and the Wolverines got off to a good start during the week of prac- tice at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Drevno talks about it in this Q&A: The Wolverine: How different are the first few days this spring compared to last year, when you had to get to know your personnel? Drevno: "The first time you take over a program you have to change con- cepts and change the culture. You're putting stuff in, always teaching and then trying to teach the technique, back and forth. "But I really think this time out here they understand the concepts. They still need to be refreshed and taught, but now we can fine-tune the little techniques because this game is about winning technique at this level. The margin is really, really small, even grows smaller as you go to the next level. It's a technique-oriented game." The Wolverine: You're only a few months away from the last time the offense was together on the field for the Citrus Bowl. How much have they remem- bered? Drevno: "There's a lot of retention from where we left off from the bowl preparation, which we're really pleased about — there's really a sharpness, which is nice. When you install it in the room you see it in their eyes that they understand what you're talking about, and they're asking the questions — the next step of the teaching progression — which is really neat." The Wolverine: What kinds of questions do you expect, specifically, of a vet- eran group? Drevno: "There's a lot more just next level [questions] … 'What happens if they line up in an odd front instead of an over front?,' or 'What happens if the safety rolls down? Do we need to make this call?' I say it's like their football lens Tim Drevno leads the offensive line, in addition to serving as Michigan's offensive coordinator. PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN
