football recruiting notes he wants to get to Notre Dame His interest level is budding so he isnt ready to pare things down just yet, but hes looking for a relationship with a coaching staff and a defensive scheme he fits into. Jonathan Lockett 5-11, 170, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei 247Sports Ranking: Ranked as the countrys No.30 cornerback. Thoughts On Offer: I was very surprised. They only offer the best kids in California so I feel honored they offered me. Thats a big out-of-state offer for me. The Skinny: 247Sports national writer Justin Hopkins reports that Lockett, who added offers from Arizona State, Oregon and UCLA in the same week, said hell travel to South Bend this spring or summer for a visit The two programs sticking out at this time are the Ducks and Bruins. John Smith 6-1, 200, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly 247Sports Ranking: Tabbed as the No. 3 safety in the land and the nations No. 16 overall prospect. Thoughts On Offer: Right now, my interest in Notre Dame is really high. The Skinny: Smith, whose nickname is JuJu, has a group of five schools that stand out to him Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, UCLA and Ohio State He plans on saving official visits for programs that are further away from home and Notre Dame fits that criteria Hes half Samoan and close friends with California offensive tackle Damien Mama, noting that the pair, plus in-state four-star Tyler Luatua, the nations top tight end according to 247Sports, mentioned traveling to South Bend together He plans on waiting until after his senior season to decide. Dylan Sumner-Gardner 6-1, 193, Mesquite (Texas) West 247Sports Ranking: Listed as the countrys No.12 safety and the No. 158 overall recruit nationally. Thoughts On Offer: Its hard for Notre Dame to recruit me because its so far away. Not because of me being interested or anything, but about getting up there to see it. The Skinny: Sumner-Gardner originally committed to Clemson last summer, but decommited in January He planned on taking visits first and then decided to give a March 2 pledge to Texas A&M, which was the favorite at the time of the Irish offer. Athlete Long Beach (Calif.) Poly standout John Smith, who is ranked as the No. 3 safety and the No.16 overall recruit nationally by 247Sports, noted that Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, UCLA and Ohio State currently stand out for him. Thoughts On Offer: Theyre a traditional school and a Catholic school. Theyre just a really good option and a place Im going to be looking hard at. The Skinny: Jackson moved from Illinois to California just a year ago, so hes not locked in to the West Coast The Irish are pursuing him as a defensive back first, but like what he offers on the offensive side of the ball as well.
