COMPLIANCE CORNER 1983 Men's Lacrosse ACC Championship Reunion On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Virginia Men's Lacrosse welcomed the teams from the '80s to join the 1983 ACC Championship team as they celebrated their 40th anniversary milestone. Over 100 alumni from the '80s plus their guests returned to Charlottesville for the occasion. During the reunion weekend, the group was invited to the UVA vs. Syracuse men's lacrosse matchup, which included a pre- and post-game tailgate hosted by the Virginia Athletics Founda- tion. Alumni and their families enjoyed reminiscing together and witnessing an exciting 19-12 UVA victory over the Orange. The 1983 team was recognized on the field at halftime with special highlights shown on Hoo Vision. "The opportunity to celebrate our athletes of the past, and to both physically embrace them and laugh at the stories of yesteryear, puts smiles on our faces and warmth in our hearts," UVA head coach Lars Tiffany said. "I feel fortunate to have had so many men, along with family mem- bers, make the trek to Charlottesville to share in the festivities surrounding our Alumni Weekend contest versus Syracuse. What a joy to see the men of the 1983 team standing on Klöckner! Special thanks to Rob Schmalz in the Virginia Athletics Foundation for gathering us all together." Women's Lacrosse 1998 Reunion Recap Virginia Women's Lacrosse celebrated the 25-year anniversary of the 1998 ACC Champions on March 25, 2023. Members of the championship team returned to Charlottesville for a fun-filled weekend. On Saturday, the Virginia Athletics Foundation hosted a pregame tailgate before the Cava- liers' game against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame that concluded in a 16-13 victory. The 1998 Championship Team was honored on the field at halftime. Following the game, all women's lacrosse alumni that attended were invited to the Boar's Head Resort for a post-game reception. Samm Popham ('99 UVA Grad) shared a few thoughts with current team members during an open practice on Friday, March 24, 2023. "As a mom of three, it is something special to turn on the TV and see the team wearing the numbers we used to wear. We're so proud of every one of you, and the effort you put forth to continue the traditions that me and my teammates for fortunate to be a part of."
